Validation List no. 8 in IJSEM Online - Effective publication Online
Notes:
1 On the Validation List no. 8, Capnocytophaga ochracea is cited as a new species (Capnocytophaga ochracea Leadbetter et al. 1982, sp. nov.) and the type strain is strain 25 = ATCC 33596 In the effective publication by Leadbetter et al., the type strain is ATCC 27872 [1]. However, in a footnote, the associate editor, IJSB, wrote: "Through a clerical error, the wrong strain was cited as the type in the original publication; the strain cited here is the actual type (S. Holt, personal communication to the editor, IJSB)" [2].
2 The type strain 25 = ATCC 33596of Capnocytophaga ochracea Leadbetter et al. 1982, sp. nov. has 77% DNA homology with the type strain ATCC 27872of ¤ Bacteroides ochraceus (Prévot et al. 1956) Holdeman and Moore 1972 (Approved Lists 1980). Therefore, Capnocytophaga ochracea should be a new combination, Capnocytophaga ochracea (Prévot et al. 1956) Leadbetter et al. 1982 and the type strain should be ATCC 27872 [3].
3 In the first edition of the Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, Capnocytophaga ochracea is erroneously (?) cited as Capnocytophaga ochracea Leadbetter, Holt and Socransky 1982 and the type strain is strain 25 = ATCC 33596 [4].
