Type species: ¤ Caryophanon latum Peshkoff 1939 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. n. karyon, nut, kernel, nucleus; Gr. adj. phaneros, bright, conspicuous; N.L. neut. n. Caryophanon, that which has a conspicuous nucleus.
