Type order: "Enterobacteriales".
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. Chromatium, one genus of the class; Gr. n. baktêria, staff, cane; suff. -ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Chromatibacteria, the Chromatium class.

1 Chromatibacteria was previously known as "Chromatibacteria " Cavalier-Smith 1998.
2 The type order "Enterobacteriales" has no standing in bacterial nomenclature. Consequently, Chromatibacteria Cavalier-Smith 2002 is illegitimate.
