Crossiella Labeda 2001, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Crossiella cryophila (Labeda and Lechevalier 1989) Labeda 2001.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Crossiella, named for Thomas Cross, a microbiologist at the University of Bradford, who made many contributions to actinomycete biology and systematics.

Crossiella cryophila (Labeda and Lechevalier 1989) Labeda 2001, comb. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) Y. Okami TS-1980 = ATCC 51143= DSM 44230 = IFO (now NBRC) 14475 = JCM 9111 = NRRL B-16238 = VKM Ac-1965.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF114806.
Basonym: ¤ Saccharothrix cryophilis Labeda and Lechevalier 1989.
Etymology: Gr. n. kruos, icy cold, frost; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. fem. adj.cryophila, cold-loving, referring to the low permissive temperature range for growth.
Other synonym: "Nocardiopsis mutabilis subsp. cryophilis" Takahashi et al. 1986.

Crossiella equi Donahue et al. 2002, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) LDDC 22291-98 = DSM 44580 = JCM 12685 = NBRC 101840 = NRRL B-24104.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF245017.
Etymology: L. gen. n. equi, of the horse, referring to the source of isolation of this microorganism, equine placentas.
