Deltabacteria Cavalier-Smith 2002, class. nov.
Type order: ¤ Myxococcales Tchan et al. 1948 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. delta, the letter d; Gr. n. baktêria, staff, cane; suff. -ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. neut. pl. n. Deltabacteria, name proposed to formalize the customary designation as δ-proteobacteria.
