Desulfomusa Finster et al. 2001, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Desulfomusa hansenii Finster et al. 2001.
Etymology: L. pref. de, from; L. n. sulfur, sulfur; N.L. pref. desulfo-, desulfuricating (prefix used to characterize a dissimilatory sulfate-reducing procaryote); N.L. fem. n. Musa, generic name of banana; N.L. fem. n. Desulfomusa, banana-shaped bacterium that reduces sulfate.
Valid publication: FINSTER (K.), THOMSEN (T.R.) and RAMSING (N.B.): Desulfomusa hansenii gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel marine propionate-degrading, sulfate-reducing bacterium isolated from Zostera marina roots. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol. 2001, 51, 2055-2061.

¤ Desulfofaba Knoblauch et al. 1999 emend. Abildgaard et al. 2004.

Note: Abildgaard et al. 2004 propose to transfer ¤ Desulfomusa hansenii Finster et al. 2001 (the type species of the genus Desulfomusa) to the genus ¤ Desulfofaba as ¤ Desulfofaba hansenii (Finster et al. 2001) Abildgaard et al. 2004, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Desulfomusa to ¤ Desulfofaba.

Desulfomusa hansenii Finster et al. 2001, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) P1 = ATCC 700811= DSM 12642.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF321820.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. hansenii, of Hansen, named to honour Theo Hansen of The Netherlands, who made important contributions to our understanding of the pathways of organic matter oxidation in sulfate-reducing bacteria.
