Etymology: L. prep. de, from; N.L. pref. sulfo-, prefix used for N.L. n. sulfas -atis, sulfate; N.L. n. natron (arbitrarily derived from the Arabic n. natrun or natron) soda, sodium carbonate; N.L. pref. natrono-, pertaining to soda; L. fem. n. spira, a spire; N.L. fem. n. Desulfonatronospira, desulfurizing soda-loving spirillum.
