Type species: ¤ Dichotomicrobium thermohalophilum Hirsch and Hoffman 1989.
Etymology: Gr. adj. dichotomos, cutting in two, divided equally; N.L. neut. n. microbium, microbe; N.L. neut. n. Dichotomicrobium, a forked microbe.

Etymology: Gr. n. thermê, heat; Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. neut. adj. thermohalophilum, heat and salt loving.
