Ferribacterium Cummings et al. 2000, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Ferribacterium limneticum Cummings et al. 2000.
Etymology: L. n. ferrum, iron; L. neut. n. bacterium, a small rod; N.L. neut. n. Ferribacterium, rod-shaped iron bacterium.

Etymology: Gr. n. limnê, pool of standing water, lake; L. neut. suff. -ticum, suffix denoting made of or belonging to; N.L. neut. adj. limneticum, from or belonging to a lake.
