Etymology: L. fem. n. fibra, a fibre or filament; L. dim. suff. -ella; N.L. fem. n. Fibrella, a small fibre, referring to the ability of the type species to produce filaments.
Valid publication: FILIPPINI (M.), SVERCEL (M.), LACZKO (E.), KAECH (A.), ZIEGLER (U.) and BAGHERI (H.C.): Fibrella aestuarina gen. nov., sp. nov., a filamentous bacterium of the family Cytophagaceae isolated from a tidal flat, and emended description of the genus Rudanella Weon et al. 2008. Etymology: L. n. aestuarium, a tidal marsh; L. suff. -inus -a -um, suffix used with the sense of belonging to; N.L. fem. adj. aestuarina, belonging to a marsh, referring to the location where the type strain was isolated.
