Type species: ¤ Filobacillus milosensis corrig. Schlesner et al. 2001.
Etymology: L. neut. n. filum, thread; L. masc. n. bacillus, rod; N.L. masc. n. Filobacillus, a thread-like rod.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AJ238042.
Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. milosensis, from the island Milos, Greece, where the organism was isolated.
