Etymology: L. fem. n. fodina, mine; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Fodinibacter, rod bacterium isolated from a mine.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. luteus, orange–yellow, referring to the colony colour.
