Type species: ¤ Fulvibacter tottoriensis Khan et al. 2008.
Etymology: L. adj. fulvus, yellowish brown; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Fulvibacter, a rod that produces yellowish brown pigment.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) MTT-39 = CGMCC 1.7058 = KCTC 22214 = NBRC 102624.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB294107.
Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. tottoriensis, pertaining to Tottori, from where the type strain was isolated.
