Etymology: L. adj. fulvus, yellowish brown; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Fulvibacter, a rod that produces yellowish brown pigment.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. tottoriensis, pertaining to Tottori, from where the type strain was isolated.
