Type species: ¤ Garciella nitratireducens Miranda-Tello et al. 2003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. dim. n. Garciella, named in honour of the French microbiologist Jean-Louis Garcia, for his important contribution to the taxonomy of anaerobes.

Etymology: N.L. n. nitratum, nitrate; L. v. reduco, to draw backwards, bring back to a state or condition; N.L. part. adj. nitratireducens, nitrate-reducing.
