Type species: ¤ Gelria glutamica Plugge et al. 2002.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Gelria, Gelre or Gelderland, one of the 12 provinces in The Netherlands, in which Wageningen is located.
Valid publication: PLUGGE (C.M.), BALK (M.), ZOETENDAL (E.G.) and STAMS (A.J.M.): Gelria glutamica gen. nov., sp. nov., a thermophilic, obligately syntrophic, glutamate-degrading anaerobe. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2002, 52, 401-407.

Gelria glutamica Plugge et al. 2002, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) TGO = ATCC BAA-262 = DSM 14054.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AF321086.
Etymology: N.L. n. acidum glutamicum, glutamic acid; L. fem. suff. -ica, suffix used with the sense of pertaining to; N.L. fem. adj. glutamica, referring to glutamic acid, on which the bacterium grows.
