Title

Family Geodermatophilaceae

Warning: In the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature, an arrow () only indicates the sequence of valid publication of names and does not mean that the last name in the sequence must be used (see: Introduction).

Classification (Warning: see also the file "Classification of prokaryotes: Introduction").

For a detailed description of this taxon see Bergey’s Manual of Systematics of Archaea and Bacteria (BMSAB).

Geodermatophilaceae Normand 2006, fam. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Geodermatophilus Luedemann 1968 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Geodermatophilus, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Geodermatophilaceae, the Geodermatophilus family.
Valid publication: NORMAND (P.): Geodermatophilaceae fam. nov., a formal description. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2006, 56, 2277-2278.
Original article in IJSEM Online

Notes:
1 The family name Geodermatophilaceae was first published by Normand et al. [1], but a formal description and the designation of the type genus were not included, thus making the name not validly published. On 31 July 2002, the Judicial Commission [2] decided that an erratum should be published in IJSEM to validly publish the name Geodermatophilaceae with ¤ Geodermatophilus as type genus of the family. In 2006, Normand [3] validly publishes the family name Geodermatophilaceae.
