Gordoniaceae Rainey et al. 1997 (complete authorship reads Rainey, Ward-Rainey and Stackebrandt), fam. nov.
Type genus: ¤ Gordonia corrig. (ex Tsukamura et al. 1970) Stackebrandt et al. 1989.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Gordonia, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Gordoniaceae, the Gordonia family.

Note: Zhi et al. 2009 propose that the families ¤ Nocardiaceae and Gordoniaceae be combined in an emended family Nocardiaceae.
