Type species: ¤ Granulicoccus phenolivorans Maszenan et al. 2007.
Etymology: L. neut. n. granulum, a small grain; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Granulicoccus, a coccus from (sludge) granules (referring to the isolation source).
