Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; Arabic n. alkali (al-qaliy), the ashes of saltwort; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Halalkalicoccus, coccus existing in salted and alkaline environment.
