Haloplasma Antunes et al. 2008 (complete authorship reads Antunes, Rainey, da Costa and Huber), gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Haloplasmatales Rainey et al. 2008; type genus of the family ¤ Haloplasmataceae Rainey et al. 2008).
Type species: ¤ Haloplasma contractile Antunes et al. 2008.
Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; Gr. neut. n. plasma, something formed or molded, a form; N.L. neut. n. Haloplasma, a salt-loving form.
