Type species: ¤ Halotalea alkalilenta Ntougias et al. 2007.
Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; L. fem. n. talea, a staff, rod; N.L. fem. n. Halotalea, rod-shaped cells living in saline conditions.
Valid publication: NTOUGIAS (S.), ZERVAKIS (G.I.) and FASSEAS (C.): Halotalea alkalilenta gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel osmotolerant and alkalitolerant bacterium from alkaline olive mill wastes, and emended description of the family Halomonadaceae Franzmann et al. 1989, emend. Etymology: N.L. n. alkali (from Arabic al qaliy), soda ash; L. adj. lentus, slow; N.L. n. alkalilenta, slow in alkaline conditions/alkalitolerant.
