Etymology: N.L. n. Helia, Hel (the goddess of Hell in Nordic mythology); L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Heliimonas, a unit (bacterium) isolated near Hell (i.e. isolated from a 150 m borehole).
