Type species: ¤ Hongia koreensis Lee et al. 2000.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Hongia, named after Soon-Woo Hong (1927-1988), a Korean microbiologist who devoted his life to the study of soil micro-organisms.

Note: Sohn et al. 2003 propose to transfer ¤ Hongia koreensis Lee et al. 2000 (the type species of the genus Hongia) to the genus ¤ Kribbella as ¤ Kribbella koreensis (Lee et al. 2000) Sohn et al. 2003, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Hongia to ¤ Kribbella.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. koreensis, pertaining to Korea, the location of the soil sample from which the type strain was isolated.
