Hydrogenimonas Takai et al. 2004, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Hydrogenimonas thermophila Takai et al. 2004.
Etymology: N.L. n. hydrogenum (from Gr. n. hudôr, water; and Gr. v. gennaô, to produce), hydrogen (that which produces water, so called because it forms water when exposed to oxygen); Gr. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Hydrogenimonas, hydrogen monad.
Valid publication: TAKAI (K.), NEALSON (K.H.) and HORIKOSHI (K.): Hydrogenimonas thermophila gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel thermophilic, hydrogen-oxidizing chemolithoautotroph within the ε-Proteobacteria, isolated from a black smoker in a Central Indian Ridge hydrothermal field. Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) EP1-55-1% = ATCC BAA-737 = JCM 11971.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB105048.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. fem. adj. thermophila, heat-loving.
