Hydrogenobaculum Stöhr et al. 2001, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Hydrogenobaculum acidophilum (Shima and Suzuki 1993) Stöhr et al. 2001.
Etymology: N.L. n. hydrogenum (from Gr. n. hudôr, water; and Gr. v. gennaô, to produce), hydrogen (that which produces water, so called because it forms water when exposed to oxygen); L. neut. n. baculum, small rod; N.L. neut. n. Hydrogenobaculum, water-producing small rod.
Valid publication: STÖHR (R.), WABERSKI (A.), VÖLKER (H.), TINDALL (B.J.) and THOMM (M.): Hydrogenothermus marinus gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel thermophilic hydrogen-oxidizing bacterium, recognition of Calderobacterium hydrogenophilum as a member of the genus Hydrogenobacter and proposal of the reclassification of Hydrogenobacter acidophilus as Hydrogenobaculum acidophilum gen. nov., comb. nov., in the phylum 'Hydrogenobacter/Aquifex'. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2001, 51, 1853-1862.

Note: In the paper by Stöhr et al. 2001, Hydrogenobaculum is cited as Hydrogenobaculum (ex Shima and Suzuki 1993) Stöhr et al. 2001.
Hydrogenobaculum acidophilum (Shima and Suzuki 1993) Stöhr et al. 2001, comb. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) 3H-1 = DSM 11251 = JCM 8795.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: D16296.
Basonym: ¤ Hydrogenobacter acidophilus Shima and Suzuki 1993.
Etymology: N.L. neut. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus -a -um, sour), an acid; N.L. neut. adj. philum (from Gr. neut. adj. philon), friend, loving; N.L. neut. adj. acidophilum, acid loving.
