Type species: ¤ Iamia majanohamensis Kurahashi et al. 2009.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Iamia, arbitrary name formed from the acronym of the Institute of Applied Microbiology at the University of Tokyo, which has made significant contributions to microbiology.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. majanohamensis, pertaining to Majanohama, the site on the coast of Aka Island, Japan, where the type strain was isolated.
