Type species: ¤ Isosphaera pallida (ex Woronichin 1927) Giovannoni et al. 1995.
Etymology: Gr. adj. isos -ê -on, equal; L. fem. n. sphaera, a ball, globe, sphere; N.L. fem. n. Isosphaera, sphere of equal size.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: CP002353 (complete genome).
Synonym: "Isocystis pallida" Woronichin 1927 (as cyanobacterium), "Torulopsidosira pallida" (Woronichin 1927) Geitler 1963 (as a yeast).
Etymology: L. adj. pallidus -a -um, pale, pallid, colorless; L. fem. adj. pallida, pale.
