Janthinobacterium De Ley et al. 1978, genus.
Type species: ¤ Janthinobacterium lividum (Eisenberg 1891) De Ley et al. 1978 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: L. adj. janthinus, violet-blue, violet; L. neut. n. bacterium, rod or staff; N.L. neut. n. Janthinobacterium, a violet-colored rod.

Etymology: L. n. agaricum, larch fungus, tinder fungus, intended to mean mushroom; L. adj. damnosus -a -um, destructive, that causes injury; N.L. neut. adj. agaricidamnosum, damaging mushroom.
