Type species: ¤ Kytococcus sedentarius (ZoBell and Upham 1944) Stackebrandt et al. 1995.
Etymology: Gr. neut. n. kytos, skin (sic); N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos, grain, seed), coccus; N.L. masc. n. Kytococcus, a coccus from skin.
