Etymology: L. n. lacus, lake; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Lacibacter, rod-shaped bacterium from lake sediment.

Etymology: N.L. masc. adj. cauensis, pertaining to CAU, the acronym of the China Agricultural University, where the taxonomic studies on the type strain were performed.
