Etymology: L. n. macellum, a butcher’s stall, meat-market, slaughterhouse; N.L. masc. n. Bacteroides, a bacterial genus name; N.L. masc. n. Macellibacteroides, a relative of the genus Bacteroides isolated from a slaughterhouse.
