Type species: ¤ Marichromatium gracile (Strzeszewski 1913) Imhoff et al. 1998.
Recommended three-letter abbreviation: Mch. (see the file ¤ "Three-letter code for abbreviations of generic names").
Etymology: L. n. mare -is, the sea; N.L. neut. n. Chromatium, a genus name; N.L. neut. n. Marichromatium, the Chromatium of the sea, the truly marine Chromatium.

Etymology: N.L. neut. adj. bheemlicum, pertaining to Bheemli, the place from which the type strain was isolated.

Etymology: L. n. flumen -inis, a river; L. gen. n. fluminis, of a river, referring to the isolation of the type strain from sediment of the Baitarani River, located in Kalibanj forest, Orissa, India.
