Etymology: L. adj. marinus, of or belonging to the sea, marine; L. neut. n. oscillum, a swing; N.L. neut. n. Marinoscillum, a marine swing(-like organism).

Etymology: L. neut. adj. luteum, orange–yellow, the colour of the colonies on marine agarose plates.
