Type species: ¤ Marispirillum indicum Lai et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. mare, the sea; N.L. dim. neut. n. spirillum (from L. fem. n. spira, spiral), a small spiral; N.L. neut. n. Marispirillum, a small spiral of the sea.
Valid publication: LAI (Q.), YUAN (J.), GU (L.) and SHAO (Z.): Marispirillum indicum gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from a deep-sea environment. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 1278-1281.

Etymology: L. neut. adj. indicum, Indian, referring to the Indian Ocean, where the strain was isolated.
