Type species: ¤ Maritimimonas rapanae Park et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. adj. maritimus, of the sea, marine; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, a monad; N.L. fem. n. Maritimimonas, a monad from the sea, pertaining to the habitat of the animal that harboured the type species, a marine rock.

Etymology: N.L. gen. n. rapanae, of Rapana, the generic name of the mollusc from which the type strain was isolated.
