Etymology: L. neut. n. metallum, mine; L. neut. n. bacterium, small rod; N.L. neut. n. Metallibacterium, a rod from a mine.

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. scheffleri, of Scheffler, named in honour of the geologist Horst Scheffler and in recognition of his work on mine geology and commitment to our work.
