Etymology: N. Gr. n. methyl (from Gr. n. methu, wine and Gr. n. hulê, wood), methyl radical; L. adj. versatilis, versatile; N.L. fem. n. Methyloversatilis, versatile methyl (utilizer), reflecting the versatile trophic abilities of the first isolates.
