Type species: ¤ Miniimonas arenae Ue et al. 2011.
Etymology: L. adj. minius, cinnabar-red, vermilion; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Miniimonas, vermilion monad, referring to the colour of the cell mass.
