Etymology: L. adj. mobilis, movable, mobile; L. masc. n. uncus, a hook; N.L. masc. n. Mobiluncus, a motile curved rod.

Note: According to Hoyles et al. 2004, Mobiluncus curtisii Spiegel and Roberts 1984 is an earlier heterotypic synonym of ¤ Falcivibrio vaginalis Hammann et al. 1984. These authors also propose to abandon the subspecies division (Mobiluncus curtisii subsp. curtisii Spiegel and Roberts 1984, and Mobiluncus curtisii subsp. holmesii Spiegel and Roberts 1984) within Mobiluncus curtisii Spiegel and Roberts 1984.
