Nannocystis Reichenbach 1970, genus. (Type genus of the suborder ¤ Nannocystineae Reichenbach 2007; type genus of the family ¤ Nannocystaceae Reichenbach 2006).
Type species: ¤ Nannocystis exedens Reichenbach 1970 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. adj. nannos, dwarf; Gr. fem. n. kustis, bladder; N.L. fem. n. Nannocystis, tiny bag.

Etymology: L. v. exedere, to go out, go forth or away, to depart, retire, withdraw; L. part. adj. exedens, retiring; intended to mean eating away, corroding (the agar).

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. konarekensis, pertaining to Konarek, a county in Iran, where the soil sample was collected from which the strain has been isolated.
