Natranaerobius Mesbah et al. 2007, gen. nov. (Type genus of the order ¤ Natranaerobiales Mesbah et al. 2007; type genus of the family ¤ Natranaerobiaceae Mesbah et al. 2007).
Type species: ¤ Natranaerobius thermophilus Mesbah et al. 2007.
Etymology: N.L. n. natron derived from Arabic natrun, soda (sodium carbonate); Gr. pref. an, not; Gr. n. aer aeros, air; Gr. masc. n. bios, life; N.L. masc. n. Natranaerobius, a soda-requiring anaerobe.

Natranaerobius thermophilus Mesbah et al. 2007, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) JW/NM-WN-LF = ATCC BAA-1301 = DSM 18059.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: CP001034 (complete genome).
Etymology: Gr. n. thermê, heat; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. thermophilus, heat-loving, referring to its growth temperature.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) JW/NM-WN-LU = ATCC BAA-1443 = DSM 18760.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: EU338490.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. trueperi, of Trüper, referring to Hans G. Trüper, in honour of his contributions to the field of physiology of halophiles and his earlier work on the microbial ecology of the Wadi An Natrun.
