Type species: ¤ Naxibacter alkalitolerans Xu et al. 2005.
Etymology: N.L. n. Naxi, referring to the Naxi nationality, who lived in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, China, from where the organism was isolated; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Naxibacter, rod-shaped microbe from the place in which the Naxi nationality lived.

Note: Kämpfer et al. 2011 propose to transfer ¤ Naxibacter alkalitolerans Xu et al. 2005, the type species of the genus Naxibacter, to the genus ¤ Massilia as ¤ Massilia alkalitolerans (Xu et al. 2005) Kämpfer et al. 2011, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Naxibacter to ¤ Massilia.
