Type genus: ¤ Nitrosomonas Winogradsky 1892 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Nitrosomonas -adis, type genus of the family; suff. -aceae, ending to denote family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Nitrosomonadaceae, the Nitrosomonas family.
