Nitrospina gracilis Watson and Waterbury 1971, species. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) See the note below.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: not available.
Etymology: L. fem. adj. gracilis, thin, slender.
Approved Lists reference: SKERMAN (V.B.D.), McGOWAN (V.) and SNEATH (P.H.A.) (editors): Approved Lists of Bacterial Names. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1980, 30, 225-420 (Approved Lists of Bacterial Names in IJSEM Online - Approved Lists of Bacterial Names Amended edition).

Note: A strain of Nitrospina gracilis, the strain 3/211 (obtained from Biozentrum Klein Flottbek,University of Hamburg) is available. However, the designation of this strain as the type strain of Nitrospina gracilis is not published in the IJSB/IJSEM (see Rule 18f). The GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number for the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the strain 3/211 is FR865038.
