Etymology: L. n. acta, sea-shore, sea-beach; L. n. ignis, fire; N.L. gen. n. actignis, of beach of fire, because the organism was isolated from a beach called Praia do Fogo meaning Beach of Fire.

Note: According to Huang et al. (2017), Pleomorphobacterium xiamenense Yin et al. 2013 is a later heterotypic synonym of Oceanicella actignis Albuquerque et al. 2012 - the 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strains had 99.9 % sequence similarity.
