Oceanithermus Miroshnichenko et al. 2003, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Oceanithermus profundus Miroshnichenko et al. 2003.
Etymology: L. n. oceanus, the ocean; N.L. masc. substantive (from Gr. adj. thermos) thermus, hot; N.L. masc. n. Oceanithermus, warmth-loving organisms living in the ocean.
Valid publication: MIROSHNICHENKO (M.L.), L'HARIDON (S.), JEANTHON (C.), ANTIPOV (A.N.), KOSTRIKINA (N.A.), TINDALL (B.J.), SCHUMANN (P.), SPRING (S.), STACKEBRANDT (E.) and BONCH-OSMOLOVSKAYA (E.A.): Oceanithermus profundus gen. nov., sp. nov., a thermophilic, microaerophilic, facultatively chemolithoheterotrophic bacterium from a deep-sea hydrothermal vent. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2003, 53, 747-752.

Note: A wrong etymology is given in the paper by Miroshnichenko et al. 2003: L. n. oceanus, the ocean; Gr. fem. n. thermê, heat; N.L. masc. (sic) n. Oceanithermus, warmth-loving organisms living in the ocean. With such an etymology, the correct name should be Oceanotherma (N.L. fem. n.).
