Oligella Rossau et al. 1987, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Oligella urethralis (Lautrop et al. 1970) Rossau et al. 1987.
Etymology: Gr. adj. oligos, little, not copious, scanty; L. dim. ending -ella, little; N.L. fem. dim. n. Oligella, intended to mean a small bacterium with limited nutritional properties.

Oligella ureolytica Rossau et al. 1987, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ATCC 43534= CDC C379 = CCUG 1465 Aa = CIP 103114 = LMG 6519.

Etymology: N.L. n. urea, urea; N.L. adj. lyticus -a -um (from Gr. adj. lutikos -ê -on), able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. ureolytica, dissolving (hydrolyzing) urea.

Basonym: ¤ Moraxella urethralis Lautrop et al. 1970 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: L. n. urethra, the excretory canal of the urine, the urethra; L. fem. suff. -alis, suffix denoting pertaining to; N.L. fem. adj. urethralis, of or pertaining to the urethra.
