Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Oligosphaera, type genus of the type order of the class; suff. -ia, ending to denote a class; N.L. pl. neut. n. Oligosphaeria, class of the order Oligosphaerales.
Valid publication: QIU (Y.L.), MURAMATSU (M.), HANADA (S.), KAMAGATA (Y.), GUO (R.B.) and SEKIGUCHI (Y.): Oligosphaera ethanolica gen. nov., sp. nov., an anaerobic, carbohydrate-fermenting bacterium isolated from methanogenic sludge, and description of Oligosphaeria classis nov. in the phylum Lentisphaerae.
