Etymology: N.L. n. ornithinum, ornithine; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Ornithinibacter, ornithine(-containing) rod.

Etymology: L. masc. adj. aureus, golden, referring to the bright yellow colour of the strain.
