Etymology: Otarioidea, taxonomic name for the superfamily consisting of the families Otariidae (sea lions and fur seals) and Odobenidae (walruses); N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Otariodibacter, rod isolated from Otarioidea.
